Biomedical Training Courses

Courses within the Biomedical Technology program concentrate on electronics fundamentals, human anatomy and biomedical instrumentation function and troubleshooting. Core electronic concepts along with human anatomy form the building blocks for the study of biomedical instruments as illustrated below. Biomedical instrumentation function and troubleshooting are extensively studied through project-based lab work.

Biomedical Technology Courses Overview

Electronic Fundamentals

Electric Fundamentals include basic electrical theory, concepts and mathematics that form the foundational knowledge for electricians to perform calculations involved in working with electrical systems. These concepts are studied prior to learning the electrical codes.

MODULE LENGTH: 5 Weeks
COURSE TOPICS

  • AC/DC concepts
  • Electrical mathematics, theories and concepts
  • Voltage, current and circuitry components
  • Power use and dissipation
  • Transformer concepts and test equipment

Digital Electronics

Digital Electronics courses introduce students to logic gates and how digital circuitry design. Students work on projects where logic chips are used to build fully functioning digital circuits.

MODULE LENGTH: 5 Weeks
COURSE TOPICS

  • AND, OR, NOR, NOT and other Logic Gates
  • Truth Tables & K-Map
  • Binary Number Systems

Semiconductors

Semiconductors courses introduce students to diodes & transistors and how they are used in switching applications.

Human Anatomy

Human anatomy courses include the study of various human physiological processes and how they can be measured, recorded and monitored by biomedical instruments.

MODULE LENGTH: 5 Weeks
COURSE TOPICS

  • Cardiovascular System
  • Nervous System
  • Cardiac Rhythms
  • Various Physiological Mechanisms

Biomedical Instrumentation Operation

Biomedical instrumentation training courses focus on medical related measuring, recording and monitoring instruments. Students study how bioelectric signals and physiological transducers are used as sensory inputs for various systems.

MODULE LENGTH: 5 Weeks
INSTRUCTIONAL LABS: Biomedical Instrumentations Lab
COURSE TOPICS

  • Electrocardiographs (ECG)
  • Patient Monitoring Systems
  • Physiological Measurement Devices

Medical Device Troubleshooting

Biomedical Troubleshooting courses are lab intensive courses that train students to troubleshoot various biomedical instruments, portable medical equipment and ICU devices to the electronic component level. Emphasis is placed on common electronic designs and diagnostic techniques as it relates to biomedical instruments.
