Ed Marrah, a recent Electrical Engineering degree graduate from SCIT, has designed and built a unique mini water fountain for his capstone project. Dubbed the "Mini Fountain," the interactive model is a miniature version of the larger water fountain found at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. It was built from the ground up, constructed using a variety of parts including PVC pipes, electric and pneumatic solenoids, plastic hoses, fountain pumps, water proof lights and assorted hardware, all of which can be found at local hardware and aquarium shops. The physical structure is composed of two custom brackets aligned side by side, each holding 10 nozzles creating 20 jets of water that are able to move in full rotation inside the splash proof aquarium. Multi colored lights create a prismatic effect throughout the water streams. A computer and programmable logic controller are programmed using ladder logic to coordinate the movements of the water jets to create any type of water show that comes to imagination.
